A Massive Endeavor: Unraveling the Secrets of Transporting Giant Modules

In a groundbreaking logistics feat, India’s Express Global Logistics (EXG) expertly managed the transportation of enormous modules, each weighing an astonishing 250 tonnes, intended for a pivotal green hydrogen initiative in Saudi Arabia. This ambitious project saw the movement of 14 colossal modules, each stretching 50 metres in length, 12 metres in width, and 18 metres in height, which altogether comprised around 1,500 freight tonnes.

Advanced Technology at Play: Utilizing cutting-edge Scheuerle self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT), EXG harnessed their powerful Megaload fleet, equipped with 48 axle lines, power pack units, and specially designed spacers for this monumental task. The roll-on roll-off (RoRo) method was crafted for eight of these modules, ensuring smooth loading via ramp plates.

Emphasizing Stability: The journey required diligent measures to maintain stability, such as precise ballasting, ensuring the vessel’s center of gravity remained intact during the voyage. The final six modules had a different journey, being transported by SPMT to the jetty and then adroitly hoisted using crawler cranes.

Collaboration and Innovation: Facing unique challenges, EXG credited the seamless operation to their engineering and operational teams’ skillful planning and execution. Their capabilities were further amplified by the Megaload joint venture formed in January 2023 with Fagioli, an Italian transport specialist. This partnership fosters advanced lifting solutions across industrial sectors such as petrochemical and construction.

The success of this complex task highlights EXG’s innovative logistical solutions, underscoring their role in revolutionizing heavy transport logistics worldwide.
